The LT Department presented a poster session at ISTE 2017 this year. Here's our week in San Antonio. June 24-28, 2017

In preparation for the second and final wave of our district-wide Chromebook rollout, the LT Department is hosting three 3-day Chromebook Academies. These brave teachers came to learn about classroom management, Google tools, and the 4Cs. June 20-22, 2017

Lead by LTC Lindsay Foster, these teachers learned about using digital tools to take their students outside of their classroom to learn and interact with others. June 15, 2017

Lead by LTC Lindsay Foster, these teachers took a deep dive into the tools and resources provided by Discovery Education. They got hands-on, as they created both digital and analog products using or about the Discovery Ed site. June 14, 2017

Kim was blessed to get to help work on the nomination packet for Darla Kester, Assistant Principal Secretary at Kerr Middle School for Admin of the Year. She made the finals! And while she didn't take the top honor...she's tops in our books! Congrats, Darla! June 11, 2017

As part of the Burleson Collegiate High School summer bridge program, I ran a BreakoutEDU where incoming freshmen had to use information they'd learned about their new school, teachers, and staff to break in to our boxes. Waiting inside were treats, campus swag, and the satisfaction of knowing they'd learned a lot about their new school! Special shout out to my son, Caleb Estes, who came to help me for the day. June 10, 2017

Our second content area academy was packed with science teachers from all over the district . We covered how technology could be used in the science classroom for k-12 with several rotations and lots of hand's on activities. June 8, 2017

On Tuesday, May 30th, the students and faculty of Brock Elementary did something that no one had ever done before… until now! They participated in the largest BreakoutEDU experience hosted since the inception of the innovative and new educational concept. Huge shout out to Patti Harju who shared her all school Breakout experience so that Burleson ISD could build this one. May 30, 2017

Most of the Learning Technologies team headed to Kleb Intermediate School in Klien, TX to present and participate in TxGoo 2017. It was a great day of sharing and learning about Google tools! May 20, 2017

The Academy @ Nola Dunn Coding Club got to visit STEAM Middle School and the zSpace lab at Clinkscale Elementary. They got to explore the 3D Lab equipment, working with robotic arms, architectural plans, bugs, and even a beating human heart. They also made binary bracelets and binary photo match ups. We had a great time! April 26, 2017

In an effort to introduce teachers to the concept of BreakoutEDU and to train them on the THIRTY boxes purchased by the Learning Technologies department, we held our first BreakoutEDU Academy. Almost 40 intrepid teachers gave up 6 hours on a Saturday to participate in a breakout and then learn how to work the locks and write their own breakouts! We had teachers who checked out boxes the very next week to use them with their students...they REALLY like the breakout model! What a great day and what great teachers! April 22, 2017

Another year of our ELA Shark Tank - Lit Tank! This year we had a TIE for top spot! That's a first for us! These kids worked hard and created some great products and presentations! April 18, 2017

Soon-to-be-Dr. Evil Lenz (soon-to-be because AP Jason Lenz is working on his doctoral degree)…has kidnapped the KMS Librarian, Mrs. April Kuehler, in an attempt to stop students from reading!!! First KMS…then the world! Our students must join together into two teams and stop him! March 24, 2017

We really enjoyed getting to work with the Campus Leadership Team on SAMR and Tech in T-TESS. After enjoying a wonderful breakfast provided by Triumph Learning, our fearless leaders dove into the SAMR pool with a BreakoutEDU activity. Then it was on to looking at T-TESS with a technology focus. We really had a great time interacting with the principals and getting to hear their great ideas! March 7, 2017

The kids in American Studies created a walk-through WWII museum with physical and digital displays. They did a great job! February 13-14, 2017

Made our annual pilgrimage to Austin to participate in TCEA 2017. Great week of sharing and learning. Got to see our friend Shirley Dalby make the finals for Library Media Specialist of the Year...and came back with enough ideas to keep us busy for a very long time! February 6-10, 2017

I worked with the teachers and administrators of Kerr Middle School to help them host their first ever Virtual Curriculum Night! We had pre-recorded and live-streamed videos for parents and students to watch! Shout out to Lindsay Foster for being my spare set of hands that night! January 17, 2017

Worked with the American Studies class at CHS to create a Great Depression break out session - part digital, part physical. The kids really enjoyed it. Huge shout out to Lindsay Foster, my teammate and Break Out Queen, for all of her hard work on the project! January 10, 2017

Every year, the Admin Building has a Christmas Door Decorating contest. The year the theme was Christmas Around the World. Our team drew Eygpt. We also took home the trophy! December 15, 2016

Burleson ISD participated in Hour of Code week for the second time this year. All of our campuses took time during the first full week of December to encourage students to code and learn more about computer science. December 5-9, 2016

Every year the Learning Technologies Department arranges digital visits with Santa. This year, we used Google Hangouts to connect with the North Pole. Students sent letters to Santa, which he checked twice with the students. Santa read a book, and everyone got to ask Santa questions before ending the hangout with a song - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It's a great tradition and the students really love it. Afterward, the letters are sent to the local paper for a special Christmas edition. December 5-8, 2016

Matt facilitated a zSpace Virtual Lab training for several intrepid teachers who gave up a Saturday to learn more about this amazing lab at BISD. November 12, 2016

With Lindsay's help, we were able to work with the 8th grade ELA teachers at Kerr MS to introduce BreakoutEDU to their students as a review for their mid-term exams. We focused on a short story and literary elements that the students had studied in class. November 1-2, 2016

We hosted our first EdCampBISD Google-Palooza with 53 teachers from 9 districts in attendance! We had a digital playground, Breakout EDUs, and door prizes from GREAT sponsors. October 15, 2016

Amy Mayer and Jessica Powell from FriedTechnology came out for a 3-day training on all things Google. Representatives from all Chromebook roll-out campuses enjoyed learning and planning together. Thank you to Hajek ES for graciously hosting the event. Oct 3-5, 2016

On September 12. 2016, our CTO had to give an update to the School Board on the Chromebook Rollout. We talked about the numbers of Chromebooks delivered, the hours of professional development provided...but the best part was when two of our middle school teachers spoke about having Chromebooks in their classrooms. The Technical Services and Learning Technologies Departments worked together to get over 6000 Chromebooks prepped and distributed to every 3-8th grade student in the district! Awesome! September 2016

The Technology Department hosted Mike Patterson from CDW for a Leadership Workshop on August 30th. Principals, APs, Top Techs, librarians, and teacher leaders joined together to learn about leading our district into a 1:1 environment. Mike shared some great resources and the whole group worked together, discussed ideas, and shared notes in a common Google Doc. It was a great day of learning, thinking, and preparing for where BISD is going next. August 30, 2016

Our first Top Tech meeting of the year took place at STEAM Middle School (thanks, Louise, for hosting)! We went over some information about the Chromebook roll out and then Lindsay introduced the group to Breakout Edu! They had to complete a breakout to find the agenda for the rest of the meeting. It was a fun way to introduce them to the concept and they worked well together to solve the clues! August 22, 2016

The Academic Innovations Department in partnership with Texas Health Huguley provided Clinkscale Elementary, and the whole district with a ZSpace 3D lab! Teachers and LT staff attended training to learn how to use the devices to enrich student learning. August 15, 2016

We helped set up and run the program for Convocation again this year. Our guest speaker was Coach Carter, and he was wonderful! What a great way to start our new year with our new team members! August 15, 2016

The zSpace Mobile 3D lab visited one of our elementary schools during the summer. Our students got to explore the lab and experience the 3D environment. They were so excited! Thanks to zSpace for coming by! June 24, 2016

BISD\'s new Burleson Collegiate High School hosted a summer bridge program for all of its students. Learning Technologies was invited to do some Chromebook training and to help with some fun team building activities (we did a digital photo scavenger hunt and made pixel art). It was a great day! BISD worked with the EdTechTeam to host the NTX Google Summit. It was a great day with lots of interactive learning and wonderful educators. We had several presenters from BISD, including some students. June 8-9, 2016
